Why do out-of-stock situations happen?

Learn what happens with your orders when out-of-stock occurs.

Supliful fulfills products on demand, sourcing from multiple suppliers to keep a wide catalog available to you. While we work to maintain reliable stock levels, out-of-stock situations can happen due to factors outside our control.

When a product goes out of stock, we'll always send you an email with details about the situation and an estimated restock date. Please note that these dates are provided as a guide only and may be subject to change.

What causes out-of-stock situations?

Several events can affect product availability at any time:

  • Successful ad campaigns that drive a sudden spike in orders for a specific product can exceed current stock levels. In these cases, we place a rush order with our supplier, but restocking can still take several weeks.

  • Supplier material shortages can extend lead times when raw materials become unavailable on the supplier's end.

  • Shipping delays from our suppliers, whether due to logistics issues or unforeseen disruptions, can push back the timing of new stock arrivals.

  • External factors such as severe weather, natural disasters, or other events beyond anyone's control can also impact availability.

Any orders placed when products are out of stock become backorders. A backorder is an order for a product that has been tagged as out of stock, where you've chosen to allow customers to continue purchasing it anyway. Backorders are automatically placed on hold and removed from hold once the stock becomes available.

Please note! If you want to prevent backorders from being placed while stock is unavailable, remove the affected product from your store as soon as you receive an out-of-stock notification. To keep your Shopify store automatically updated when a product goes out of stock, check the help article about automated Shopify product stock update.

Our Customer Support team can also give you an approximate restocking timeline if you need more information. We appreciate your patience as we work to resolve every situation as quickly as possible.
