How to create label designs with Canva?
Here’s a step-by-step guide explaining how to use Supliful’s provided template to create and finalize your coffee label design using Canva. Follow these steps to ensure your design is prepared correctly for printing.
Using the template guides
Begin by reading the Template info panel to learn what the different line types represent:
Fold line: Where the packaging will be folded.
Safe line: The area where all important text and design elements must be placed to avoid being cut off.
Bleed area: The outermost area that your design must extend to.
Please note! You can delete the Template info panel after you have reviewed it. To make the guidelines easier to work with, it is recommended to design on top of the lines in Canva. You can remove the placeholder design elements layer group to eliminate distractions while you work. Ensure you do not remove mandatory text elements during the design process, such as "Net Wt." and the Roast level of the coffee.
Placing your design
Bleed area: Your design must cover the entire bleed area to ensure no part of the final print is cut off.
Fold and Safe lines: Do not place any important text or design elements on the fold lines or too close to the edges of the safe area.
Reserved area: Keep the designated “Reserved for internal use” area clear of any important design elements or text.
Finalizing the design for export
Once your design is finalized, you must prepare the file for export by removing all template elements.
Before the final export, your design should look like the final mockups, with no guide lines, bleed areas, or placeholder text like "FRONT," "BACK," or "TOP."
Exporting from Canva
Check the Flatten PDF option and export your finished design file using the “PDF Print” option.
Uploading your label
Once your Label Design PDF is ready, upload it to the Product Customization page.
You will be prompted with a live 3D preview of your coffee product.
Carefully review the preview and submit the upload on the screen before the system generates the final product mockups.
And that's it! You have successfully created and uploaded your label design with Canva.
How to create label designs with Adobe Illustrator?
Here’s a step-by-step guide explaining how to use Supliful’s provided template to create and finalize your coffee label design using Adobe Illustrator. Follow these steps to ensure your design is prepared correctly for printing.
Using the template guides
Begin by reading the Template info panel to learn what the different layers represent. Inside the Illustrator template, there is a layer group called GUIDES_TURN_OFF.
This layer (and its sublayers) contains useful guides that are explained in the Template Info panel and will help you position your design correctly.
You can turn different parts of it on and off (e.g. fold lines or text guides) to ensure the correct placement and comfortable usage. The layer is locked, so it won’t interfere with your design process.
The layer is a template layer, which means that when you save the file as a PDF, you do not need to convert it to outlines. During the export process, the GUIDES_TURN_OFF layer will be automatically turned off.
Exporting from Adobe Illustrator
Once your design is finalized:
Select all elements (Ctrl+A or Cmd+A).
Outline your text: go to TYPE → CREATE OUTLINES (Ctrl+O or Cmd+O).
Open the Links panel (WINDOW → LINKS). Select all your images and choose “Embed Images” from the panel menu.
Go to FILE → SAVE AS and save your file as a PDF.
In the pop-up window under the “General” tab, choose [High Quality Print] from the Adobe PDF Preset dropdown menu.
Uploading your label
Once your Label Design PDF is ready, upload it to the Product Customization page.
You will be prompted with a live 3D preview of your coffee product.
Carefully review the preview and submit the upload on the screen before the system generates the final product mockups.
And that's it! You have successfully created and uploaded your label design with Adobe Illustrator.
Coffee and matcha tubes
Our tube packaging labels are designed to be applied directly over the cap and will tear when the product is opened for the first time. This unique design requires a specific approach when creating your label.
For some of our products, labels are designed to be applied over the cap and will tear when the product is opened for the first time. This unique design requires a specific approach when creating your label.
Designing with the breakpoint in mind
We've added dotted lines to the label template to show you the approximate (!) place where the label will tear. These lines serve as a visual guide for this breakpoint.
We highly recommend that you keep all crucial design elements, such as your brand name, logo, or essential product information, outside of this area.
Any text or imagery that crosses this dotted line is likely to be split in half and become unreadable once the tube is opened. By keeping your key information away from this zone, you can ensure your label looks professional and is fully legible after the seal has been broken.
Please note that these dotted lines are for your reference only and can be deleted from your final design before you submit it.
Label specifications and dimensions
When you're creating your label, it's essential to design it to the correct size. We have two key dimensions for this label:
Trim Size: this is the final, cut size of your printed label, which is 4" × 6.875". Think of this as the finished product that will be applied to the tube.
Bleed Size: this is the overall size of your design file, including an extra margin to ensure your artwork extends to the very edge of the final cut. The bleed size is 4.25" × 7.125" and includes a 0.125" bleed line all around the trim size. Designing with this bleed is crucial to prevent unprinted white edges on your finished label.
Currently, our catalog includes two products with this type of label: Ceremonial Matcha Powder and Sweet Brew Instant Coffee. If you have any questions or need further clarification on tube packaging labels, we’re here to help. Reach out to us anytime at [email protected].
