How do time zones impact membership billing?

Learn why your renewal date may not match your local calendar and what to expect.

Written by Katie Park

Supliful processes all membership billing in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), a global time standard that keeps transactions consistent for sellers worldwide. If the renewal date in your Supliful account looks slightly different from what appears on your bank statement or email confirmation, a time zone offset is almost always the reason.

This guide explains how UTC works, why dates can appear to shift, and what to expect when your membership renews.

UTC: the universal standard

UTC, or Coordinated Universal Time, is the global reference point that all time zones are measured against. Unlike local time, UTC never shifts for daylight saving time and stays constant throughout the year. Many membership services use UTC to keep billing cycles consistent across regions.

How time zone differences work

Your local time zone can change how a UTC date appears on your end. For example, if you're in California (Pacific Time) and purchase a membership on the evening of January 1, it's already January 2 in UTC. This means your Supliful account may show January 2 as your renewal date, even though you signed up on January 1 locally.

Membership billing date: UTC vs. local time

Supliful displays membership cycle information based on UTC. As a result, you might see that your membership renews on the 2nd of each month in your Supliful account. This is in line with UTC, not your local time zone.

Billing consistency

Here's the key detail to keep in mind: even if your membership information shows the 2nd of the month in UTC, your billing will align with your local time zone. For example, if your initial membership purchase was on January 1, you will be charged on the 1st of each month in your time zone.

Why does this matter?

Understanding this time zone difference helps you avoid confusion about your billing date. By recognizing that your charge corresponds to your local time zone, you can plan your finances accordingly and make sure the necessary funds are available on the correct day.

How to check your renewal date

  1. Log in to your Supliful account.

  2. Click on your profile in the left sidebar and select the Plan & Billing section.

  3. Find the renewal date listed in the Membership plan section.

  4. Compare it against your bank or payment statement, keeping your local UTC offset in mind.
